Search has changed a lot in the past year, and it is getting harder for publishers to know what actually matters and where to focus.
Should you still care about traditional SEO? How do you get stories into Google’s AI Overviews? What does it mean when readers are increasingly turning to ChatGPT and other AI assistants for answers?
Those are some of the questions we’ll tackle during our Oct. 14 webinar, “SEO for the AI Era,” led by David Arkin.
Here are three things we’ll cover:
1. What still matters in SEO
A lot of the basic advice publishers have followed for years still actually matters. But some of it does not, and newsrooms are spending time on SEO tasks that have little impact or that could be potentially penalized by Google. We’ll sort through what is still worth doing, what has changed and what publishers can stop worrying about.
2. How stories need to change
People are finding information in more places, and stories need to be easy for both readers and search platforms to understand. We’ll look at practical ways to improve headlines, story structure and direct answers so your content has a better chance of appearing in Google Search, AI Overviews and AI assistants.
3. What to focus on before 2027
Publishers should start updating their most valuable evergreen stories, adding clear answers to common questions and building stronger topic pages that connect related coverage. We’ll also look at how SEO should fit into the assignment and editing process, instead of being added after a story is finished.
